Girls Pubic Hair

Girls Pubic Hair—Will It Ever Stop?

Hormones and heredity determine how much pubic hair you have and the shape it takes. Some girls pubic hair grows down to the upper thigh; others find that they may develop a thin strip of hair that extends from the top of the pubic triangle to the belly button. This is all totally normal!

It's also normal for girls pubic hair to be different in color and texture from your head hair. For example, your pubic hair may be curlier and darker than the hair on your head.

The reason for pubic hair is to protect this area from sweat and dirt. That's the same reason why you have eyebrows, to keep sweat and dirt out of your eyes!

During bathing suit season, many girls get rid of the hair that shows beneath their bathing suit line by shaving, waxing, or using a depilatory (a hair-removal cream). Whether you choose to get rid of bikini-line hair or not is up to you. Just remember, different people have different results with depilatories, so you should test it out on a small patch of hair before betting your bikini line on it. Also, waxing can leave skin red and irritated for a couple of days. And shaving with a well-used razor blade can also give you a rash, often called razor burn. So if you have hair you want to get rid of, it's best to plan ahead!
